Wesley-Luther is proud to have founded the Spartan Open Pantry, UNC Greensboro’s food pantry for students and staff in need of assistance. From students who need a little help at the end of the month, to homeless students and families who depend on the pantry for complete support, the SOP assists our neighbors who need a hand.

SOP to GO

To help students at other times during the week, we have mini-pantries called SOPtoGO. Individuals using this service can grab up to 5 items each day.  This is a service that helps folks who need immediate food assistance and cannot wait until our regular distribution (Tuesday & Wednesday 5-9pm).

Wesley-Luther has served the university as a non-profit campus ministry committed to supporting students and advocating for issues of inclusion and justice for more than 100 years. Wesley-Luther began a small food pantry in 2009 to serve hungry students at UNC Greensboro. As that pantry grew a natural partnership with the Division of Student Affairs developed. The SOP has become a national example of a model of effective partnership between a campus nonprofit and University to provide support for hungry students.

Much of the pantry professional staff time and operations are funded out of the Wesley-Luther general budget. Funding is also given for our students staff, food, and operations from the Lilly Endowment, College Place United Methodist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, West Market United Methodist Church, First Lutheran Church, Jewish Family Services, Student Affairs and other local groups and individual donors in our Spartan Community.  The Spartan Open Pantry would not be possible without the incredible donations of the UNCG staff, students and faculty.
