Dear incoming freshmen,
Welcome to UNCG. College is the most excitingly stressful and crazy fun turn your life has taken yet. You’ll take leaps you never thought possible, study until your brain explodes, and meet the people that will impact your life forever. Freshman year is when you finally find your footing and start to figure out what kind of mark you want to make in this world. Maybe you’ve got a path you are dead set to taking. Maybe you have no idea. Maybe you are so sure now of where you are going, but end up changing that path three or four times before the year is over. I certainly did.
I’m now going into my junior year at UNCG. When I was a freshman, I was a Media Studies major. I had dreams of heading to California and making it big. In that year, I switched my major three times. I learned the significance of a good night’s sleep, how to study, and when to ask for help. I figured out the hard way just what true friends are and in the process how to be one to others. I learned the value of a midnight Cookout run, spontaneous Frisbee games, and all-night movie nights—and I made some of the greatest memories and greatest friends of my life so far. Somehow, in the middle of all of this, I found Wesley-Luther.
Wesley-Luther has impacted my life in a lot of ways. I’ve learned a lot about how my faith affects my life and the life of those around me. I’ve started to build a relationship with God that I’ve never had before. But more than that, I’ve built relationships with people who share my faith—as well as my sense of humor—and who love and accept me for who I am. In Wesley-Luther, we are a community who supports each other through laughter, prayer, good advice, and fond memories. We are just normal college kids who hang out inside and out of the We-Lu lounge. We hang out, watch movies, play board games, get dinner, and spend time together. We also have bible studies, small groups, and worship where we can spend time not just with each other but also with God. When I found We-Lu, I was looking for somewhere to fit in. I was looking for a group of people that I could love, trust, laugh, and have fun with. In the end, I have found everything I could’ve hoped for.
As freshmen, you’re going to be searching to find your place and where you fit in. I really hope you find everything you imagined in your college life through We-Lu. Can’t wait to meet you!
